History of Dunlop
In 1888 Dunlop's founder, John Boyd Dunlop, came up with the idea of wrapping his son's tricycle wheels in thin rubber sheets, gluing them together and inflating them with a football pump, after watching his son ride uncomfortably over cobbled ground. This invention was to become the first air cushioning system in history and laid the foundations for the first pneumatic tyre. Dunlop quickly patented this and started to develop his invention into a commercial venture, which became known as the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co. Ltd. In 1893 Dunlop sold his first tyre in Germany and by 1895 Dunlop tyres were being sold across Europe. Today Dunlop remains at the forefront of product development, with dedicated technicians and designers dedicated to maintaining Dunlop's reputation for producing exceptional performance tyres.
